About
To most, Austin is a pretty normal teenager. He lives in San Francisco with his moms (Dinah and Gillian), his little sister (Emily) and his cats (PB and Jelly). He loves skateboarding, playing guitar, horror movies and video games, is a pretty decent student and gets along with pretty much everyone.
But also, he has to drink blood to survive.
Six months ago, on Austin’s 18th birthday, he snuck into a bar with his friends, got a little drunk and flirted with the wrong person. Her name was Catherine and Austin was mostly just thrilled that a gorgeous, older (ha!) woman was showing any interest in him, so he gladly followed her up to the roof where they fooled around a little – and then she bit him. And not even in a ‘this girl likes it rough’ kind of way.
Austin woke up the next morning in a dumpster with a killer headache, blood all over his favourite shirt and roughly a billion texts and missed calls from his friends and his moms. Everything was a little foggy until Catherine visited him that night (via his bedroom window, because of course he was grounded) and told him that she was a vampire and, now, he was too. She gave him a quick crash course in what that actually meant (“yes you need to drink blood, no you can’t fly or turn into a bat.”), along with her phone number (“only contact me if you actually have to.” “are you in trouble or something?” “no, baby vamps are just super annoying.”) before leaving town. Now Austin has to try to juggle his final year of high school, parents who probably think he’s on drugs, and the weirdest cravings he’s ever had in his life.

Personality
One of those “gets on well with everyone types”. Super laid back and always smiling, usually goofing around because nothing makes him happier than making people laugh. He’s pretty much the opposite of the teen vampire trope – he loves people and loves life and, as far as he’s concerned, becoming a vampire just means he gets to experience more of it. In fact, the only thing about him that changed after getting bitten was his temper, leaving a lot more prone to getting hangry these days.
Abilities
Vampirism Austin has sharp, pointed, retractable fangs that extend beyond his human teeth. For the most part he has full control over them and can keep them hidden, but they have a habit of popping out if he smells blood or gets overly angry or – well – excited.
Strength Though his strength isn’t what it will be after time, he is still stronger than humans, especially during physical combat.
Speed He is extremely fast, able to move faster than human eyes can see. Between his speed and superhuman reflexes, he is able to react with unnatural quickness.
Durability While he can be injured, conventional weapons – including firearms and blades – will only slow him down for as long as it takes him to heal (an ability that will only improve the longer he lives). He is immune to the cold, poisons, and most illnesses.
Senses His senses of sight, smell and hearing are extremely enhanced. He can see perfectly in the dark and his hearing is comparable to an owl. His sense of smell is similar to that of a wolf’s and he can track people for miles, further if they are bleeding.
Hypnosis No doubt the weakest of his abilities at this time, Austin can, theoretically, hypnotise humans, making them spill their darkest secrets and even forget he ever existed. In practise, Austin is terrible at it and finds it morally questionable so tends to not bother.
Immortality Austin is set to remain 18 for the rest of his (un)life. He will not age, and as long as he isn’t killed, could potentially live up to thousands of years. Which leads perfectly to…
Weaknesses Although conventional weapons will not harm him, silver burns his skin and a well-placed silver blade to the heart would kill him, as would decapitation and burning him, as long as the fire reached his heart. Immune to most illnesses, feeding from someone with any kind of blood disease will leave him ill for several days, longer if he doesn’t feed from someone healthy. Contrary to popular culture, crucifixes and holy water have no effect on him. Direct sunlight prevents him from using any of his abilities and, as he grows older, it will start to burn his skin. Oh – and he does need to be invited onto private properly to enter.
